Summary:#The Nurse Resident is a new graduate registered nurse who is in the Nurse Residency Program. The New Graduate Residency Program supports the graduate nurse to make a successful transition to competent practice by providing a safe, nurturing, learning environment during the first year of practice. Curriculum concepts include: Disease specific care, evidence-based practice, communication and teamwork, person-centered care and quality improvement. Critical thinking, professional accountability and responsibility are threaded throughout the curriculum. Small groups of residents are assigned a resident facilitator that works with and supports the residents throughout the program.# Major Responsibilities: 1. Participates in clinical orientation with a rotation through four clinical settings: Medical, Surgical, Oncology, and Cardiovascular services which provides experiential learning at the bedside, supervised acquisition of skills, training and practice in the use of clinical equipment, documentation and other information systems. 2. Participates in classroom activities including lecture, small group discussion, and reflective learning through journaling. Examples of classroom content include: Establishing a therapeutic relationship, delegation, ethics of self-care, social media in the workplace, communication and patient safety, end of life issues, pain management, and nursing management of the diabetic, respiratory and cardiovascular patient populations. 3. Recognizes changes in patient condition, demonstrates critical thinking and effectively intervenes. 4. Consults with patient, families and other team members on ethical issues including end of life, palliative care and hospice. 5. Demonstrates effective use of conflict management strategies and implementation of the chain of communication to increase patient safety. 6. Completes all the nurse resident competencies related to disease management, nursing sensitive quality care, person-centered care and patient safety during clinical orientation rotations. 7. Completes an evidenced based project, which includes an effective literature search and a small test of change. Location: Elmhurst Hospital## 155 E. Brush Hill Road## Elmhurst, Illinois Full Time KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1.## Required Education, Skills and/or Experience: Baccalaureate Degree or higher in Nursing On rare occasions an internal candidate with an Associate#s Degree in Nursing may be considered. The RN must obtain a Baccalaureate Degree or higher in Nursing within five years of date of transfer to RN position.# Only candidates strongly recommended by their Director, approved by the Chief Nursing Officer and who have been evaluated as a top performer will be considered for this position.# External candidates with an Associate#s Degree in Nursing may be considered after approval by the Chief Nursing Officer. The RN must obtain a Baccalaureate Degree or higher in Nursing within five years of start date into RN position.# 2.## Required Certification and/or License: Documented proof of passing the NCLEX and Illinois RN license application upon position start date.# State of Illinois RN license must be obtained within 90 days of position start date. ##If the State of Illinois RN license is not obtained within 90 days of position start date, employee will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
