Advanced Practice NurseEssential Job Functions: Contributes to physician#s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives. Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories. Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results. Prescribes medications judiciously in accordance with all state, federal regulations; hospital policies; privileges granted through credentialing and within the parameters set forth by the written collaborative agreement.# Documents patient care services by documentation in patient and department records.# Record keeping is legible, accurate and treated in a confidential manner.# Record keeping is timely. Performs therapeutic procedures such as drain removal, suturing, suture removal, managing wounds and infections. Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; discussing family planning; providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living; promoting wellness and health maintenance. Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans. Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. # # Other Job Duties: Assists with analysis of practice issues (quality of care, patient/family satisfaction, MD satisfaction, financial impact) Provides clinical leadership is further developing the clinical practice, policies, procedures and practice standards. Participates in committees as requested. Analyzes and shares new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops and professional literature. Utilizes current research and evidence based decision making in all clinical practice.# Incorporate clinical research findings in the development and implementation of standards of care. Perform and participate in quality/performance improvement activities, as well as, clinical research. Role model professional practice through demonstration of professional interactions, conduct, personal appearance, communication, mutual respect, leadership, ethical decision making, critical thinking and problem solving abilities. Demonstrate responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.# Maintains proficiency in hospital-wide computer system. Supports hospital wide and department initiatives/goals. Meets with supervising physician monthly to discuss clinical practice issues and receive feed-back on performance. Solicits annual feedback from supervising physician incorporating into hospital annual performance review. Skills/Qualifications: Graduate from an accredited Advance Practice Nursing program. Maintains current certification as an AOCN. Current Illinois licensure as an RN and Advance Practice RN Current CPR card Current Mid-level Controlled Substance License Current DEA license
